CWD testing
 

I volunteered some time today to help collect samples for CWD testing at the Department of Wildlife here in Elko, NV. While I was there, 4 mule deer (2 - 24-25" 4 pts, a smallish 3 pt, and a spike) which we were able to use 3 of them, and then a mature 3 1/2 year old cow elk. All of the animals were healthy. There were also several cow elk and deer brought in before I got there. I got to help taking out the lymph nodes and spinal cord which will be sent to UC Berkley here in the next few days. Pretty interesting stuff, everybody should help do it once in a while. I will be going back a few more times during the next 2 months or so.

The wife and I just took the class on how to take CWD samples, hope to be at a check station sometime this fall and winter.

I just attended a MDF meeting and they are asking for any heads from your game. Just take the head to your local Dept. HQ and they should be able to remove the brain-stem area to test for CWD.
