Default Deer Hunting in the Idaho Bitteroots Unit 17

All,

I am thinking of buying an Idaho deer tag and hunting in Unit 17. Specifically I am thinking of going right up next to the Montana border on road NF-468 which leads down into Darby, MT on the other side. I spent some time there years ago and I am wanting to take my 13 year old son in there with the hopes of him getting a nice muley buck. Has anybody hunted in that area within that last couple of years and do you have any info to share regarding the hunting conditions. Also, the season opens September 17th and runs till November 18th, if anybody has experience in that area, how late in the year would you chance still getting in there by truck on road NF-468?

Thank You!

Steve
