Public land around Colorado Springs
Hello,
I'm a new hunter, and I'm trying to figure out where to hunt. I just got a small game license. I've only been able to go out once so far, and I didn't see anything. I live in Colorado Springs, and I'm looking for places nearby. I went to the Beaver Creek State Wildlife Area. All I found was a flock of songbirds. I also tried going to the Turkey Tracks Ranch State Trust Land, but I couldn't find the place. Does anyone know exactly where that is? I followed the directions in the brochure, and I also tried looking it up online. The brochure said there would be signs posted, and I didn't see anything. I looked on google maps, and found the place it was supposed to be. There was a ranch there, but it had a different name. Are there any other public lands near Colorado Springs that I should check out? Are the State Wildlife Areas and State Trust Lands the only public lands you can hunt on, or should I be looking for other places? Thank you! |
There is a lot of public land west of the Springs on hyw.24.. Look for national forest as well as BLM land.. All that is open to the public for hunting

I was in your same boat last year when I moved to colorado springs. I wanted somewhere close to hunt. It took me a summer of hiking and setting out trail cams to find the animals. Bear and deer are easy to find. Turkeys and elk are difficult. Once you find them might want to keep that location to yourself. What are you looking to hunt? I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the replies.
Right now I'm looking for good places for rabbits, squirrels, foxes, and coyotes. Hopefully in the future I'll be going after deer and elk, but I was unsuccessful in the draw this year. |
Shoot me a PM and I will give you some coordinates near woodland park. I used to hunt coyotes and seen some rabbits there. You still can get a bull tag OTC for most of the GMU's in that area.

Thanks c-rad. I'll look into the OTC bull tags.

Have you killed any coyotes yet?

I also need a good coyote hunting spot
Hi I am thirteen and was wondering c-rad if you could give me the coordinates of the area in woodland park. If you could that would be great.
