how about a nevada hunters thread??
i have seen a few other hunters from nv. on here. so i thought we should have our own spot.
post up who you are ,what tags you got, where you hunt, ect. i'm mike from reno.born and raised.been hunting in nv. for almost 20 years. i drew a 192late rifle deer tag and an area 7late cow elk rifle tag. |
My name is Marcial.
I drew (along with my dad) an 061/071 Cow ML tag and an area 6 ML deer tag. Will be out starting on the 15th for about 10-11 days. After that I will throw in a day or two of chukar hunting, and then lion hunting all winter. This cooler weather is great! Later, Marcial |
Name is Benson. Been huntin northern nevada my whole life. Didnt draw a single tag this year in 3 states. Do get to tag-along though. My dad drew a buck tag for area 15 (lander county) and one of my buddies drew a montello elk tag so atleast I still get to go.
|
well dove season is under way ,and it has not been as hot as past years but we are still getting some shooting in.chukar season is right around the corner. always better then christmas morning.
|
coyote pups are moving around good. Shot two the other day that just wouldnt run away. Almost cant wait for these other hunts to be over with so I can start callin coyotes again.
|
I just shot the muzzle loader today at an elk target. 1st shot at 100 yards hit the heart. 2nd shot at 50 yards hit the center of the lungs!
I think I am sighted in and ready to go. Gonna hit the hills Friday morning and try to find a buck worth putting a tag on opening day! Later, Marcial |
Good luck on the hunt. Need to see some hunting pics so I can live vicariously through you guys that got tags this year. Saw some good bucks on Coyote and Soldier creek to the north of Barrick last year. Havent really been in 6 too much this year. A couple of trips into boulder valley after an antelope but didnt see many deer.
|
good luck on your hunt. i drew both late hunts so i have to wait a while.
|
Well, no buck. But did help a person find a bull that he wounded earlier in the day. Bulls are tough!
Wedenesday we leave for our elk/deer hunt! Later, Marcial |
cool, good luck on your hunt.:fighting0007:

Good luck on the hunt charlie brown sounds like it should be a great time.
Ive got question for either of you - has either one of you ever hunted 202 205 or 206. My dads buddy drew that area for deer then called and asked if I would help him out. He dont get around to good and I have never been there. I really am not lookin for your secret spots but just curious which of the 3 units you would focus on. I cant even begin to go look at the area until Oct 20th. |

I know nothing about area 20.
I did get my elk tag filled this year on the hunt though. Missed a couple deer, and my dad was not able to fill either of his tags. I was by myself when I got the elk, and 5 hours later had it at my 4 wheeler in 5 pieces. Saw some decent bulls on the trip, but not a lot of elk overall. It was some tough hunting with the heat and the full moon. Later, Marcial |
congrats on the elk. a solo elk hunt can be tough hunt for sure.
as far as hunting in area 20. the mts. west of walker are steep but hold some good deer . what season does he have? |
congrats on the elk hunt. the 202 205 206 hunt is a november hunt. Im headed up this weekend to do some looking around. I ran into a guy from gardnerville that was deer hunting in 151 and I put him on some descent bucks. He said if there isnt any weather the deer wont move into the areas my dads buddy has. Im kinda curious if this is gonna be the case. Anyway thanks for the info.

Well I'm not from NV but am a NV hunter. My Pop lives in CC and he got a deer tag for group 11-13 this year. We went out last week to Mosquito dry lake in group 11. Spent a week up there and we saw lots of deer. All except 2 were doe's. There was one spiked buck and one button horn buck, neither of which we wanted to take home. For what ever reason the larger bucks were not in the area.
Beautiful area though, had never been there before. The Pronghorn are everywhere. We watched herds of 20+ antelope down on the lake bed with the spotting scopes. Several nice sized bucks in the groups too. Got to see a handful of wild horses and a seriously healthy looking coyote too. It was a really fun trip, would definitely do it again. |
rgs - just remember that the "button bucks" are not legal bucks. They are antlerless deer, and not legal during the antlered hunt.
If you were finding a lot of deer, you should be finding some of the bigger bucks soon on that hunt. Later, Marcial |
looking forward to the cow elk hunt this sat. in area 7.:D
|
Went out on this last snow storm and managed to put up a lion with a friend. We each had two dogs on the race. She had kittens, so we let her go. Quick race, and made for a fun day.

Hey everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself. The name is Jessie and I currently reside in Fernley NV. Just started hunting again after about a 14 year lay off lol. Never hunted in Nevada before. Just went through all my safety classes etc. Only hunted in California when I was a teenager so I'm sure Nevada is a lot different. Just wanted to chime in and say hello at least and look forward to picking everyone's brains lol. Any other info you want to know just let me know. Very excited about this season and the other seasons to come.
|
Welcome to huntin nevada. guarantee youll love it.
|
Good to hear. I hear Nevada is on a lottery system when it comes to tags. Not sure what the means exactly. Can anyone fill me in? Sorry for the dumb question.
|
You have 5 choices on your tags.
Your app number goes into a computer, which randomly gives it a number. The numbers of all applicants are then put in order. The computer starts with the first app and goes down their 5 choices, and continues with each app until all tags are allocated. If you don't draw, you get a bonus point. They are squared, and you get one for the year you are one. 5 bonus points = 26 random numbers, and you are assigned the lowest number. With this system, everyone has a chance to draw, no points or 100 points. Its the low number that counts. Kinda like the guy that buys one raffle ticket and wins vs. the person who spends hundreds on a thousand raffle tickets. Anyway, thats the short version. Apps are due in mid April every year! Good luck and welcome to NV!! Later, Marcial |
Guess im used to California where you can just go buy tags lol. Wonder what the likeliness drawing a ticket is.

Go to www.ndow.org
Click on hunting. On the right side there is the link for drawing odds and hunt stats. There is also a link on there somewhere that has the regulations, and a unit map somewhere. All the information you need is there, and there is a ton of it. Later, Marcial |
I'm a nevada hunter. I've put in for tags for two years anyway.:) So I do my big game hunting in WY. Birds and varmints here. I started a new post about the new bear hunt. 20 tags, I heard. I wonder what the odds are on that one.:bash:
