I carry both, pistol and spray. I 'think' I have more faith in the spray, like AK Jeff said, you have to be able to pull, fire, hit, under extreme duress and adrenaline, I don't know how you could practice this. The spray does work, my hunting buddy has fended off two grizzlies, one of them he says was probably a bluff but who knows.

If you are looking at Region 1, especially near glacier park, here is a guarantee, there is a grizzly in every basin, and they know your stinky rear end is there. 99% won't screw with you, they will blow out and run away, its that 1% that I carry both gun and spray. I have never set a trail cam in the middle fork or the south fork of the flathead and NOT had a griz on cam in that basin.
