Hey guys, are there any regulations as to a maximum percentage of let-off a compound bow may have to hunt elk in WY,NM,& CO? Gonna buy a new bow and want to set it up for hunting elk. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Frank

Only state I knew of was Idaho with 65% max let off. I think even they may have changed this since.
I really don't know how a state would enforce a 65% vs. a 80%. Less they knew how every bow at 65 or 80 was labelled etc...and had game wardens in the field checking? I don't even know of any bows making more than 80% let off, i know many states won't let you use something that creates 100% let off, like a cross bow etc... Pretty sure you're good with 80 let off in NM, CO, WY. |
Thanks for the reply salukipv1. I was reading an article on selecting a new bow and it mentioned about how some states still have restrictions on let-off amounts and thought I'd ask here. Thanks again, Frank

There is a 99% let off bow being made: Concept bows. Not sure about in which states it might not be legal.

Wyoming regulations state nothing on the let off % of archery equipment. Elk and Moose require 50 lb minimum and other big game species require 40 lb minimum draw weight.

80% is the max in Colorado
