Hunting riffle requirement in WA - ?
Hi,
I have friends told me that the M1A1 Carbine couldn' t be use to hunt (just deer) in WA. I read the regulations, and it calls for a .24 cal minimum. The Carbine is .30, correct? Could someone confirm if the carbine is legal to hunt in WA? Thanks. |

RE: Hunting riffle requirement in WA - ?
Sorry, you can' t hunt in Washington with " riffles" . Other than smacking hollow plastic balls they just don' t have the energy to down any game.....
Just teasing. Like you said as long as the rifle is at least .24 caliber and I believe has to produce 1000 ft/lbs energy at 100 yards then you should be ok. A quick call or email to the WDFW should be able to tell you for sure. Just make sure if you' re on the border you get the name of the person that gives you the info so you can quote them later in case you' re talking to an agent. |

Thanks for your input. I emailed the WDFW, and I got a reply back saying that this rifle meets the minimum requirement. However, the email didn' t recommend this rifle for big game. But, I think that it should be a good deer rifle for up to 100 yards range.

I' m not that familier with that rifle or caliber so I can' t say for sure but if it' s .30 cal it should work find for deer. I' d look around for energy levels on this site or search the web. It should have at least 1000 ft/lbs of energy for effective killing of deer (from what I' ve read).
