Colorado Mulie Rut

Folks, I've started planningfor a guidedEastern Colorado (plains)mulie hunt. First time out West for mulies. Hoping for some input from the seasoned guys on this forum. I'm trying to time my trip as best as I can with the mulie rut.Right now I'm looking at last week of Oct. first week of Nov. for the rifle hunt.AmI too early for the peak of the rut (is thisblock of timeconsidered "pre-rut"?)?Will the bucks be moving assuming seasonal weather patterns? Thanks

Yep, that's pre rut. The largerbucks will probably have their harems by then and they will bed down all day as high as they can get to keep a lookout. The rut should be in full swing the third and fourth weeksof Nov. Then they are up and chasing the does all day. You'll usually see three times as many bucks then as subordinate bucks will be on the prowl looking for any chance to get a doe.

I agree. I live in Montana and the rut usually gets into gear Nov 8 or so. Thanksgiving will still be in the rut and even later, but I feel the 10-15 is the best. CO is a bit south, so timing might be slightly differnt. Each to there own, hunting Mule Deer anytime is a blast evenweather its pre rut, rut or post rut. Enjoy your hunt.
