RE: New Mexico Unit 16B elk info?
Hunte dlast year with an outfitter. Not sure of anyone who drop camps, but they do exist....packing in all your gear would be pretty tough.
There are a few main access points, one right int he heart of the wilderness, cliff drawings national monument or something....youll see it on a map, none the less all access roads/points tend to be main oints of access for outfitters and others..... I think that entire area is good and surrounded by great units as well, outfitters would tend to get back in there I suspect, backpackers hunting more of the perimeter/access points. I'd certainly get a topo.....as there are some steep and deeep canyons and going a mile in 1 direction could be a nightmare and actually amount to miles and miles, up/down and steep, a good topo would be a good start to plan a hike in..... may be easier to camp on the outskirts and then hike alot for the hunt itself if you dont use a drop camp....also a satelite phone......to rent, cell phones most likely wont work. |
