wyoming elk hunt advice
Hey folks, I drew a GENERAL elk license for wyoming 2008 and am doing research on which areas to concentrate on with good numbers of elk and possibly some good bulls. I've hunted at the south end of the star valley several times, with some success, but sporadic at best. I'm looking into the areas around yellowstone, and have heard various reports, including that wolves have taken a tremendous toll on the elk populations. Somebody point me in thr right direction,. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

RE: wyoming elk hunt advice
There is still good elk hunting around Yellowstone. Yes there are wolves and Grizzley's.. But theres still elk, and some good quality. Dont let anyonesay differntly, yes it has effected the elk but the elk are still there. If your not mobile, you may not see many elk as the wolves will push the elk around alittle from drainage to drainage. Many of those units are Guide requirement as much of that area around Yellowstone is in the wilderness areas.

RE: wyoming elk hunt advice
The wilderness/outfitter rules really stink in Wyo! I can camp, hike, fish in a wilderness area without a guide... but I can't hunt? Ridiculous! As far as I know, wyoming may be the only state with these rules? The problem, is that most of the General License access areas around the park, are in the wilderness. I'm looking into some of the areas bordering the wilderness, but so far it doesn't look very promising. That's exactly why I'm here looking for some intel.
