Nim - No luck on the Texas part of the Spring 2004 Turkey Adventure, but I managed to pop a couple of nice Oregon Rio Grande turkey down by Medford late last week on some private land. My first turkey scores! It was pretty neat. I sent pics to ABM (I still don't know how to post them on this site).

Let me know what you decide on the boat. I'll get some ads out if you wish.;)

PHISH- CONGRATS ON THE TURKEY. A FRIEND OF MINE IN KY BLASTED A 26# 11" BEARD , 1-1/8" SPUR TOM YESTERDAY:) HE WAS USING MY DOUBLE BULL BLIND I LEFT IN KY FOR HIM TO USE.
LOOKING FOREWARD TO SEEING THE PICTURES, ARE YOU GETTING THEM MOUNTED?
I WILL DROP YOU A LINE ABOUT THE BOAT WHEN I DECIDE. I WANT TO GET A SURVEY ON IT.

Nim - No, I'm not getting the birds mounted, but I AM doing a fan mount of the larger of the two for some variety on the condo wall! I can send you copies of the pics.

Your KY friend got a great bird at 26 pounds - it was probably even bigger before his "rutting season" kicked in! :D One of my friends on another forum got a 26-pound tom in Missouri and it was a beauty.

Had a nice blackie run across the road in front of me last night out past the Ferry Terminal. The temps must be warm enough to roust them out. A sure sign Spring is here.

A friend in HI HAS 4 FAN MOUNTS AND ONE THAT IS THE FAN, HEAD, FRONT OF BREAST AND WINGS ( TOPS FOREWARD AND TIPS DOWN) ACTUALLY NEAT MOUNT AND DID NOT TAKE ALOT OF ROOM. IF I CAN LOCATE THE PICTURE I WILL SEND IT TO YOU.

WE HAVE A BUSY WOLVERINE HERE. HAS KILLED 7 CARIBOU SO FAR, AS OF YESTERDAY. THE 'BOU ARE VERY WEAK, A VERY COLD WINTER ADDED TO FREEZING RAIN THAT COVERED THE TUNDRA EARLY AND THEN WAS SNOW COVERED THEN MORE FREEZING RAIN THEN MORE SNOW IT WAS HARD FOR THEM TO DIG TO THE FOOD SOURCE. ONE OF THE ENVIORMENTAL FOLKS HERE WENT OUT TO CHECK A DEAD 'BOU AND SHE WAS WITHIN FEET OF IT WHEN IT LOOKED UP AT HER TOO WEAK TO GET UP.

Nim - Boy, sounds like pretty tough conditions for the caribou. If there is a big die-off, I will recall the real reasons (and not the oil industry-related ones that will be touted by the "huggers"). The way I love 'bou meat, I hate to see any large-scale problems with that particular herd.

I saw one of those full, flat-wall mounted turkey down in Texas. It was certainly beautiful! Maybe if I get a nice Merriam in the future (and the weather isn't so damned wet and miserable at the time) I will take the time to skin it all out and try it. If the plumage is all intact, it would nake a great mount. ;)

LUCKILY IT IS A SMALL GROUP OF 'BOU THAT WINTER HERE NEAR KUPARUK. SO IT SHOULD NOT BE A HUGE DIE OFF.

DRAWING PERMIT INFO IS ON THE WEB.

Pat,

The new fishing regs are out. Has some bow fishing stuff you might want to know about. If you plan on bowfishing pike in the tannana river system, or whitefish, it close's here the 30th of April and wont open back up till sept 1.

Burbot and suckers are bowfishable all year. Wonder how ya go about finding burbot though......huge lights at dark?

LIL HUNTER - THANX I THINK THAT IS THE WAY IT WAS LAST YEAR CLOSES BEFORE ICE IS FULL GONE AND OPENS WHEN IT'S TIME TO FREEZE. HOW ARE THE ICE CONDITIONS NOW?

RE: Alaska Thread

The grayling have been biting pretty good for the past 2 weeks. been fishing burbot the past couple of nites with decent success.

Ice is really flowing right now, still quite a bit of ice in the tannana yet along the banks, however she's flowing good too. The chena is open fairly well, however the upper chena has not blown out yet.

Lakes are still frozen, with 3 feet of ice reported 2 weekendds ago now. Some of the smaller ponds are getting dark along the edge's so it wont be long.

I was going to ask, has anyone seen any grizzlies yet up north? I dont have the tag to hunt the north side, but figuring if they are popping on the north side, They'll be out on the south side also. How are the snow conditions at kapurik?
