Looking For - Western Elk Hunt

I am looking for an outfitter to go hunting out west during September 2008. Archery only with guaranteed tags.

I have hunted Montana for deer, but I really want to go after the big boys.

Can anyone help.

I'm not sure about the guaranteed tags, but their are multiple outfitters that you can find online. If you narrow down the state, that would help. Do you want a wilderness horseback hunt, a private ranch hunt, a drop camp, and town based hunt? How much money are you committing to hunt the "big boys"! The sky is the limit here!

Sept. 06' I did my first outwest Colorado archery Elk hunt. I planned it for 3 yrs, and decided on Winterhawk Outfitters. I can tell you I had a fabulous time. I wasn't successful, came close on a nice 5x5. Saw plenty of Elk. I'm alreadly booked for Sept. 08' with them, and can't wait to get back. Its a western style horseback/mule hunt. Its not easy, but very rewarding. I had a great time. They are a first rate family run outfit. You may have seen a few hunting shows with them. Jay Gregory of Wild Outdoors has had couple hunts on tv with them. The Outfitters Journal also had a show with them. Other big names like Babe Winkleman, and Lee Lakoski have hunted there. You can check out their websight www.winterhawk.com they also have a dvd of past hunts will send you if you call them for info. The archery tags are sold over the counter in that area of Colorado.

You should look upusername Huntquest on this site. His name is Kevin. I can give you his cell phone # if you send me an email. He has a very reasonably priced elk hunt in Colorado. I have been in contact with him and plan to do a deer/elk combo hunt with him next year.
Here is his website. Check him out. He'll take care of you.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I am about 80% sure I am heading to the Missouri breaks in Montana. Just tying up some of the details.

The breaks are a different kind of elk hunting for sure.. not your typical high elevation hunting, but there are a lot of elk out there I hear. Be prepared for warm to hot weather that time of year!

Tons of elk in the breaks, tons of hunters too. Its mainly a spot and stalk elk hunt, not saying you cant call in a bull but most of the bulls I saw ran the other way when you called to them. The locals we ran into there, didnt even bother to carry a call.

Pray for no rain during the hunt, gumbo of the breaks is some of the worse around the countrywhen its gets sloppy.
