RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Thanks for the welcome! I' ve been reading this sight and it appears that this is a good group.

I was born and raised here, but it wasn' t until after I returned after a 20 year Air Force career that I started hunting. I enjoy outdoor activities ... camping, fishing, hunting. So far, I' ve only gone elk hunting. As I said, this is my third year.

The group of guys I go with from work decided to hunt the Rimrock GMU, based on the fact that one of them hunted the area about 12 years ago. No luck in the past two years, but I drew an antlerless permit this year so hopefully we' ll have a better chance at getting a kill.

Like I said, still new to the " game" and have lots to learn. Any advice will be welcome! Where do most of you all hunt for elk?

Johnsonmi, I don' t know that you' ll find much out about elk hunting tactics here, but maybe on the big game forum. We mostly just like to shoot the breeze, and keep everyone abreast of various subjects. It speeds up from time to time, or it may get really slow, but somebody is always dropping in. There are some that can tag ' em every season, but I haven' t been so fortunate. I usually archery hunt on the West side, but I pulled out the muzzleloader and drew a cow tag for the Taneum unit just east of Snoqualmie Pass this year. Won' t do that again. Too think and dry to chase ' em in there. I' ll stick to the west side from now on. Not that it' s any less thick, just closer to home. Usually get in some time either in the Skookumchuck or down SW near Pe Ell.

Well, I' m now out of the archery loop for a while. It seems that while I was off elk hunting last weekend, the wife/kids accidentally left the garage door open Sunday night. On Wednesday, I noticed a circular saw and case and a rotary saw and case were missing. I just thought I had loaned them to neighbors, and started asking around. Nobody had borrowed them. Then this afternoon, I noticed my bow case was gone too. That' s bow, quiver, release, a dozen Easton ACC arrows, a dozen Beman arrows, and 6 broadheads in a hard bow case. Talk about a punch to the gut. I' m just glad I opted to muzzleload for deer this year instead of archery like usual. I' d really be pissed, not that I' m not pissed enough right now. Filed the police report tonight, and I' ll start calling pawn shops in the area tomorrow. I' m not holding my breath though. Man, that chaps my a$$.[:@]

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Slee, as you suggested, I posted an " advise request" on the regional forum for the West Region. Will see if I get any response. I still plan on following this thread though. Always good to hear about everyone' s adventures.

Sorry to hear about your archery equipment being stolen! I can imagine what you' re feeling. It' s really bad that we have to treat our homes as if they were Fort Knox. In reading some of your past posts, I see you' re from South Hill. I too am on the hill and it' s not too comforting knowing that someone' s going around helping themselves to our possessions. Sure hope the police can recovery your items!!

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Hey there all, die-hard bowhunter from Kingston checking in. I have relocated recently from Boulder, CO. Me and the family. I work as an commercial electrician for a shop out of Poulsbo. I have been here only since July. I haven' t met anyone who bowhunts yet nor have I prepared to go hunting anywhere as of yet. I would like to hunt the deer around this area and chase the Roosevelts in November over in Forks. My wife and I are 27 and have two children. two yrs. and eight months old, both girls. It would be great to meet some of you guys around the area. I notice some are south of me here in Port Orchard and Silverdale. I have not yet been down to check out KBH in Belfair or the pro-shop D&D Archery. I am renting up here in Kingston. We have two horses on 20 acres of pasture and surrounded by woods. I have blacktails in the yard everyday. I have not seen any trophy caliber bucks yet but I am thinking of planting a food plot.
Anyone know of some potential trophy areas for taking blacktails? I have located an access to some great elk hunting around forks on the Solduc/Hoh river area. I am going to try to hunt there November if possible. I understand there is a second late season archery in Nov. here on the West side? What do any of you bowhunters consider trophy blacktail? Antler spread and tine length is what I am wondering. How big might one grow out here at say four years old? Thanks.
I look forward to talking to some of you.

Thanks for the offer Wayne, but I couldn' t ask you to do that. Besides, I won' t need it for this year' s tags anyway. Hopefully I can settle out with the insurance, put a little more money aside, and get the latest, greatest, most advanced bow that the new model year will bring, or get a price break on a 2003 model. If that don' t work, I' ll look at another Reflex. Mine had taken a beating over the past 4 years, and they shoot great. Probably the best bow on the market for the money.

The officer didn' t sound too optimistic about me recovering my stuff, but I' m gonna keep my eyes open and check around anyway. I' ll keep you posted.

:D As stated by others to all newcomers " welcome to the forums!!!!!!!"

Now to WAYNE;
;) Sure felt strange to wake up in my own bed Friday morning-felt like I' d made a mistake or something! But we did have a good weekend over at elk camp. Not as many deer as we were used to seeing ,but every one of them was on[:-] " Public land" :D
We have NEVER seen so many Branched [:o]bulls before!! This was our count; Cows-35,spikes-2, big bulls-15. Spike only is really going to suck soon![X(]
As I said,I kind of missed the trip over your way but did save a bunch on gasoline![:-]:D
One other thing . I see where the Colville, Okanogan, and Wenatchee National forests have ALL scheduled more public meetings regarding ACCESS and the dtes and times can be had at www.fs.fed.us/r6/colville/cow/

What a bummer Slee... It always amazes me that people can justify in their mind taking someone else' s stuff... It is completely out of my realm of thinking. I' m going to start setting aside some money in the coming months to purchase a new bow (haven' t been into it in a while, but the call is too strong now and I need to put aside the rifle and get back into it) - So, any idea' s of where to look for a set up would be great! Again Slee - sorry to hear that.
