Hey Kitsap, I might try and make it to your Jakes, so I can see if it is something we want to start down in Auburn. Did you ever make it up the Teanaway?

The birds over in KF/ Colville @ least last WE were talking pretty good but where I was they were hangin up quite a bit, couldn' t get one to the magic range and only heard maybe 2 shots all WE. Did manage a jake though :) and my buddy missed one with a close to 12inch beard:(

Also in my preivous post I mentioned I thought it was possibly a Rio Jake, turns out just got some different plummage then my other Merriam' s so no dice but been a remarkable season for myself anyway:)

Well, I' m heading east! It seemed like it would never get here, but I leave out at 10am for destination unknown. I' ve got 2 spots to choose from, so I guess I' ll decide which one to start out at on the trip over. Could be worse I guess, I could not have anywhere to go. I' ve got ' til Sunday noon to fill my tag. Hopefully me and bldhound can sweet talk us some birds into range. He' s coming to hunt for the weekend.

Wayne, I' ll give you a yell in the next day or so to give you a heads up on our location. I' m gonna try to remember to grab your video on my way out the door, so I can deliver it personally. Fred e-mailed me that they are really starting to talk, and the hens are spending most of their day on the nest. Should be good. He' s gonna try to meet up and hunt with us once. You should try to do the same. Maybe he' ll take us to one of his spots. Later y' all.

Yeah Slee you lucky dog, getting to head over to the spot b/c, poor ol' me having to work. I may take off Fri. just to get in another day. The ' OTHER SPOT' , I' m working a last minute Hail Mary to get the group on there as well. If you & your partner get into the birds, dust ' em bro & I' ll have to get by on the scraps! LOL If the weather will coop with us it should be a good WE. I can see it now pulling in & you took the tent spot leaving me to set up in the back 40 or in the pond. Do me a favor run every dang one of those geese out of that area..........so sick of hearing them, I was ready to open season last WE. LMAO

Trapper T...no I didn' t make it to the Teanaway. Instead, I logged in many miles doing down to Raymond and Pe Ell. I was unfamiliar with the turf so did some light scouting. Didn' t see anything. I also hit Johnson Creek but again did not see anything but another hunter claiming to attempting to get his Eastern for his Washington slam (already had a Rio and Merriam). Personally, I think hunting for Easterns in Western Washington sucks.

I hope to see you and many more at our JAKES event on July 26th. If anyone wants more information, go to http://lakewashnwtf.tripod.com It' s gonna be a good time.

Congrats on your harvested birds.

Well its the last week and i havent heard or seen a tom in two weeks im very depressed and want to cry, i cant stand this season its been terrible for me im hopin that it will get better this last week for me but its tough, its just been all around terrible first things first my gun broke, then the birds are down and my hunting spot is over hunted, i was sick for 1 week with some weird virus and couldnt barely move out of bed and i havent been in the woods as much as i would of liked, im really depressed guys, the only good thing that has came of this season is spending time with my dad and being able to hunt with my cousins gun[:o]:D[8D] Remington 870 express super magnum, now all i need is the bird that dares to come within 60 paces. sorry to sound like a bum guys

I think your right, you gotta know exactly where they' re at in the thick weeds, 5 years Ive seen 2 hens in separate locations. Except for the ones down @ Alice' s. Man the size of those boys is enough to make you want to jump the fence don' t it.

Tiggeer, you ain' t finding birds? two weeks ago I hunted up Iron mt. I know it gets pressuered but I' ll bet in two days we had 7 or 8 different Toms fire up each day, they were a little call shy but they would let you know wherer they were. Good luck guys, down to the last of it, Im gonna try and hit the PeEll area a little this WE. Inlaws see' em around their place once in a blue moon so at least taking the Shotgun w/ me;)

Another note Kitsap, looked as if the Teanaway word got out. Last year I seen 1 truck up there all year, this year every gate had at least 2 rigs by them. Found another spot where I bagged my tom that I ain' t sayin because the few that were up there were roadies, some don' t even shut the engine off to call[:@]

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

We' re back. I had a great time over on the other side. Bldhound' s first spot was a bust. Heard 1 bird Friday morning that actually ran from my calls. He' d been screwed with way too much from the road. Bldhound came through for us though. We relocated and met him and his girlfriend at the pizza place in Chewelah Friday night to go to location #2.

This place was a small area, but turned out to be home to quite a few birds. Bldhound worked a tom(the boss tom) into gunrange for his girlfriend, but terrain let it live another day. I worked 3 birds on another ridge. The 2 closest ones stalled below us, but we called the 3rd one in from 400+ yards away. He went to the right of my partner just out of range, strutted on a nearby knoll, then bailed off the back to hook up with the other toms. I decided to play cat and mouse. I backed out while calling to him. My partner closed on the knoll. Within 5 minutes, BAM! Dead bird. Suckerrr! He had about a 8 1/2" beard with 1/2" spurs. A real nice bird.

We played with a few more, and got messed up by one of the landowner' s from below when he rode his quad through while we worked with 2 gobblers mid-morning. I had a few more close calls, but no shot opportunities. Bldhound decided to bump a jake past the tree I was sitting. The operative word here is " was" because 30 minutes earlier I decided I' d relocate and try to work a trolling tom. Note to self: Gotta be more patient. May take more than 2 hours at a spot when activity is slow.

Wayne, I' m sorry I couldn' t work a meeting out this time. We literally chased birds from daylight to dark with the exception of early afternoon lunch/nap time. Maybe next time. We are talking about hunting the early part of season next year, since we have access to this private land now. Hope your weekend was as exciting as ours. Were you or your guests able to tag one?
