early season scouting

Just wondering if there is a good time of the year to go scout for elk. I went out this morning and found where I would like to hunt, am I too early to be walking around out there?
I am located in southwest wyoming.

Anytime is a good time to be scouting. Right now there is a good chance if finding some shed horns. This might tell you about the quality of bulls in your area. I personaly scout as much as I can get up there.

Went out tonight for another little walk around and ran into a young moose doing the same as I, just taking in the scenery. Still hopeing to find the elk, have see lots of tracks and some poo, but nothing moving.

When i go scouting, i look for a place with a lot of tracks, New or old. If the tracks are there and a good # of them, they more than likely will be crossing there in the near future.
