well your to late for the wyoming draw. but try area 38 late season cow tag. i think it is type 6. this allows you to hunt a portion of 38, that always needs cows taken out.you should be able to pick one up on the 2nd draw in july.
good luck, oh ya this area is just above sheridan wyoming.

Hmm. If you want to try WA, I think you can just buy a ticket and start hunting - no drawing except for bull tag on certain areas. For archery season, you get to shoot a spike or cow for eastern WA. Western is different. Check out WA regs.

How about your own state to start? I hear southern PA has a decent elk herd now! If your looking for a western style Elk hunt. Colorado is full of public land. Some areas have over the counter tags that you won't need to draw for. But the problem with doing a self guided on your own type hunt, is all the equipment you'll have to purchase before going! You need the supplies to setup a good basecamp using either camper off a public forest rd. or a good tent which can pack into the forest someplace. If you don't have the equipment now it'll likely cost you in the range of a paid guided hunt. Your other option is a cheaper drop camp unguided hunt. Your paying to use the outfitters area, his camp setup, andthey pack all your gear in & out for you. The Colorado region doesn't make self hunts to newcomers easy. So your looking at a real challenge, and lots of homework.

The new mexico draw ends April 7th. You still have time to draw. Several units have great odds. If your going to travel all the way out west, why not try to take a bull? After all your going to have quite abit of money invested int the trip alone. If you want some advice E- mail me at [email protected]

Colorado is over the counter for bulls is most areas. Check out the Meeker/Craig, Durango, and Gunnison areas. There are a ton of spots you can go not just these.

I don't care what anyone says, it won't cost you much more than a tag, gas, a good meat pack, and a ton of hard workfor a do it yourself hunt in any of the over-the-counter states. Just do your homework in the areas you want to hunt and plan on staying for a while. I think you would be glad you did it yourself instead ofhaving a guide do it all for you. Brett

Idaho has over the counter bull and cow rifle tags, also you might want to look into a drop camp. less expensive and less long distance homework to do. kind of tough scouting a western state for a place to hunt DIY from pennsylvania.
