Like Kirkl said, I'm glad they took the tag out. We've been asking for it for a long time. It will hopefully weed out some that don't really care about the sport and go just because they got the tag. I do hate to see the license go up much on the non-residents since I'll be one next year, but I'm willing to pay it since they have designated the turkey tag goes directly to turkey management. Them's the breaks. It'd be nice to see less hunters who wander around trying to get their money's worth out of the call rather than learn the sport. Although I like to get my money out of them for their call.:D

Was just looking at the new Turkey pamplet yesterday and good ole Washington State, the tax and spend State, has a new way to take money out of our pockets. Used to be if you purchased a Small Game Hunting License it came with one Turkey tag. Not this year, you buy the Small Game License and then pay again for the Turkey tag to go with it. As an out of state hunter my cost has about doubled, last year the three day non resident small game tag with turkey tag was around $56.00, this year the total for license and tag comes to $98.55!!! Extra turkey tags are $65.70 each. |

We have special rates for Foreigners over here CD. :eek:Just cause ur special it will only cost you $149.25 to hunt turkey in Idaho (full year small game license and one turkey tag), now mind you the license is good for small game all year. The $98.55 I have to pay Washington is for a 3 day license. Now if I wanted to have the all year small game license it would cost me $208.05 for the license and one turkey tag in Washington. Me thinks that is a lot of greenbacks just for a turkey.

No matter how you slice it, it usually costs a lot of money to hunt out of state. I would love to hunt elk with my dad in Oregon, or even gothere to hunt turkey. Ireally just can't justify the money though.
Sounds like you've been getting a good deal in Washington though for all these years. :D |

Wasn't too bad before, but they got me hooked on the birds now and I need a fix. That and it is realy nice to hunt with family and old friends. I go more for that than anything else.

Was talking to my neighbor across the fence last weekend and he told me he has 20 acres in the Blues. He found out a few years ago that he will never be able to build on it he hasn't even been up there in several years. I asked him if there are any turkey there and he said probably. He said he let a couple guys he knows hunt deer on it a few years ago. Well, let's just say, I am heading up there at the first opportunity to check it out. Don't know when that will be, but I have high hopes. We'll see. |

As far as hunting out of state, I try to hunt turkeys in the same state that I will big game hunt in. At least that is how I justify it. All and all it is cheaper here than in the south. There is alot of public land here. In the south you have to hunt private land which means lease fees = $$$.

Having grown up in Spokane and being used to having access to great expances of public land I just can't immagine paying a fee to lease hunting land, it's just not American too me. I lived in Dallas Tx in the early 80's and that is one of the things I didn't like there, that and the fleas, roaches, chiggers, fire ants, brown water and pissy attatude of the Texans.

I lived in Dallas in the late 80s. I agree, the hunting situation is just not ideal at least for me.
Now, about the attitudes of Texans..........well, they take "Don't Mess with Texas" seriously. |
