I just moved to Coeur d'Alene, so haven't hunted it yet, but I'll be ready next fall.

I hunted elk for the first time in Idaho this past September just out from Clarkia. To say it SUCKED would be an understatement. In 5 days and well over a hundred miles of timber co. roads and miles of hiking skidder roads, I only cut 3 sets of fresh elk tracks and heard 3 or 4 bulls. I don't know what happened to the elk, but the locals were even having a hard time finding them in the area. Not sure if it was pressure, weather, timing of the rut, or what, but we didhave 2 wolf packs howlingnear campmost nights, and one bull I was talking to shut up when they started howling one evening. They've got to get a handle on the wolfsituation over there before I go back.

Hunt there, I live there. Do a lot of hunting in unit 8A Palouse zone. But I wander into other units for deer, bear and turkey.

My cousin Rich and his wife Joanie own Elk City Adventures which is out of Elk City.. By chance are you using their services or are you on your own?
