Speaking of Colorado GMU 62...
Have any of you hunted unit 62 for mule deer? Particularly the 1st or 2nd rifle seasons. If so, any tips on where you found the best deer, and would you go back?
Come on folks, somebody must have been there? |
RE: Speaking of Colorado GMU 62...
Never been there. I can tell you that my grandfather, dad, uncle, and cousins all hunted around Grand Junction. Most of the time they came home with meat. I never did see any antlers, even though they shot bulls. I was always told that they're too heavy to pack out with the meat andyou can't eat antlers anyway.

Antler soup is one of my favorites.:) Really though, I figure I have about 10-12 years to spend some serious trophy hunting time in the woods, because after that my kids will be old enough to hunt and it will be all about them at that point. Assuming they want to hunt...they better want to hunt!

On a different post about hunting in this same area, I replied about mule deer I had seen in area 62. I never saw many but did see one of the largest muley buck I have seen in my life while hunting that area. It was near the top of the mountains. But I saw the most amount down lower.

Do you remember names of roads, waterways, ridges, etc... that would specifically lead me to what you saw on a map?
