colorado pheasant hunting

I'm moving to colorado shortly after new years. My question is that I'll be wanting to hunt pheasants with my dog, are there areas to do so or will i be driving to kansas or iowa for hunts? I'll be moving to winter park\granby area, so any information would be great, thanks!

Colorado has a "walk-in" program that has opened a lot of private lands to the public for upland hunting. The DOW has maps available that show where all the lands are located and what game you can expect to find on each parcel. Our pheasant and quail numbers are as good as our neighbors to the east, but there are birds to be hunted. Unfortunately for you, you will have to buy a non-res. license since you have to have lived here several months to be concidered a resident.

I would agree with Howler. The Walk in Program is great. I have had some luck knocking and asking permission. From Granby and Winter Park you are looking at some driving. On the other hand, you are in some good deer and elk. Good luck and welcome to Co.

Walk-in program is great, and farmers are willing to allow hunting more and more (Wild Turkey works well for this.)
