RE: Prairie Dogs in Colorado. Protected?
It depends on where. I work for the city of boulder and they are way protected there. We actually have the plauge on the premises of our drinkind water facility and it doesnt bother them, the boulderites that is. It bothers me plenty and I would love to see the little buggers extinguished! But there are places in colorado you can shoot them. As well, if you own property that you can legally shoot on, you are allowed to shoot them if they are being a nuessance. I think the rule is noo shooting them east of I 25 unless you own land. EJ

All of my shooting is done east of I-25. Done on private land with the permission of the owners. Maybe I will have to call up the DOW and see if I can get an official ruling on the subject.

RE: Prairie Dogs in Colorado. Protected?
I called the DOW months ago when I was told that they were protected and couldn't be shot. I found out, this is true on any public land east of I-25, BUT they can be shot on private property as long as you have permission and if you are "working" as an "agent" for the landowner. I questioned this "agent" part further, and basically I was told that as long as I have permission from the landowner, I would be fine. SO, if ya got a landowner that wants you to shoot them, and you're east of I-25, you're good to go!
