I can not believe the problems I am having trying to find somewhere to hunt dove in this state.

Very tough out here!! Public land very crowded and privtae is already taken!

Yea But I know there are places that have a little property that a guy could go shoot a few doves on and not have to pay 300.00 a day.

Yeah, I live in northern colorado as well and cant find anything acceptable. EJ

It can be tuff in CO., so I choose to drive east 4 hours and hunt KS.! There I don't have to worry about seeing enough birds, instead I have to make sure I have enough shells!

My dad has property out east and always limit before noon. There are so many doves flying some time you only have time to single load. The place has been given the name dove heaven by the few friends I bring along with me.

I don't know whether to hate you or be happy for you. : ) It seems like that is the way it is in CO. Either you own land, beg permission or do without. Last 3 yrs I've been hunting as stand of cottonwoods down the middle of some wheat fields. It's one of those places that everyone hunts and the owners don't fuss about it. It's just outside of Aurora off I70 and is real convenient, but last season they started leveling for a subdivision, so I'm hoping I"m good for this season, but I know I'll be looking next season.

I may be willing to take one or two after the opener. The problem we have had is, we take a couple people then all of a sudden they think they have free reign. Several times I have invited one person then the next weekend I see that person out on my dads place with 5 or 6 friends.Most of the time they don't even stop in to ask.Sometimes my dad has been dragged out of bed well before dawn by people asking for permission. Two years ago this all festered over during pheasant season.Some friend of a friend tried to kick me and my brother off my Dads place. It was a real ugly situation. He told me this guy I took up their earlier that year for dove owned it. That year was horrible. My dad had trash in his wheat and corn fields and a ton of shotgun shells. After that we pretty much stopped taking anyone new.
Most land owners I know, myfamily included will let people hunt. All you have to do is go out where you want to hunt that summer and ask. Plan ahead, don't be intrusive and offer to help out, mend fences what ever. I know when I have been asked, if they offer to help out it changes my perspective. Also, here is a secret that few people use. It is easier to get permission to hunt pests then other game. Start out by asking to shoot prairie dogs or coyotes. As you hunt you are gaining our trust. After you kill some pests, asked for the doves, pheasant or antelope(another pest). We had a couple guys thatwere originally from New Jersey who did just that. They have been hunting my dads place for about 7 or 8 years now. It is a little late but head out towards Hugo orKit carson and ask this weekend, not next weekend. Just my $.02
