Default WA AHE Elk Hunts

Anyone from WA know anything about the AHE hunts marked *HM (for "Hunt Master")?

I'd consider putting in for some of those hunts, but I looked up the hunt results from last year and they did not look good. It seems the permit holders for these hunts are contacted on an "on call" basis to hunt. Last year few if any of the permit holders actually reported hunting in the HM hunts (like 1 or 2 out of 20!). For the 5 HM hunts in 2004 there were a total of 63 permit holders. Only a handful actually hunted, and out of those there were exactly 0 elk reported taken.

Seems kind of fishy. Anyone able to shed some light on this?

I drew a tag for the Kiona hunt last year and was told in september that they were not going to have any of the hunts because the landowners did not want AHE hunters on there property take it for what its worth.

Yep, the land owners learned quick. I drew an AHE cow tag a couple years ago and couldnt find any "open" country in the unit. Basically these hunts are to give you a reason to complete the AHE program. We did it about 7 years ago ONLY because they changed the unit we hunted Elk to AHE. Now every AHE hunter hunts there and there are ten times as many hunters.

Too many folk out there that think it is there right to hunt a place just because they have a tag a guess there were some real ugly situations in the past so the land owners with the damage ask that AHE hunters not be used on there properties.

I wouldnt apply for the invite only hunts. Theres 3 good units to hunt if you want a cow and they run from Aug-Feb. I shot my cow that way last year.
