KILLED A RARE DUCK THIS MORNING!!!!!!!
 

Well fellows this morning was a good start to the 2005 year me and my dad went out and killed 2 birds neither of have seen in 25 years of duck huntin combined. most of you want think these are to rare but for us they are started out the morning killing a COMMON MERGANSER HEN that kit in the decoys followed by a BLUEBILL DRAKE then i took a bird decoying and i thought it was a ruddy after i picked it up got home and checked my duck book and it was a OLDSQUAW HEN very rare here its rarer than a canvasback or a Pintail. now i live a 6 hour drive from the coast of north carolina so i would say she was lost. but anyway shes going on the wall. for any of you who care it was shot on Blewwtt Falls Lake on the PEE DEE River Lake chain in north carolina

By the way the two birds we have never seen a Common Merganser and a Oldsquaw

come on up to NY, we got mergansers out the wazoo! we're allowed 6 a day in addition to the regular bag limit!

they come into the dekes well, and are fast targets.

speaking of odd ducks, i had a hen woodie swim up to me through the icebergs yesterday,!!
she shoulda been gone months ago. she flew off after about 1/2 hour. musta been lost...

congrats on a good day hunting.

ps--good luck trying to eat that merganser, i havent found a good recipie for them bad boys yet!

Hey Moose, woodies typically do leave fairly early, but every year we kill a few later in the season, in 2000 I killed 2 Drakes in our late Jan season, I was pretty suprised!!!
