RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
it does say 2 3/4" on the reciever??? Never seen that. as long as the shells arent jamming while ejecting then i would say it is ok.

RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
only shoot 3" in it, if its a magnum reciever. otherwise youre in trouble. it'll fail on you, perhaps minor, perhaps deadly. it does NOT matter what the barrel says,it s what the reciever is! (of course, only shoot 3" in barrels that are made for that)

RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!

What does the reciever say??? Does it say "Remington 870 Express" only???? I dunno, I guess i would have to look at it. Also how old is it??? I don't know of ant 870's that are newer that are only 2 3/4".

RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
i have an 870 fromt he 80's that i used for deer . it specifiaclly says 2'3/4 inch only. but the hastings barrel i have on it says " 2 3/4 or 3''shells in magnum recievers ONLY"
take it for what you will, but i sure as hell wouldnt want a reciever to blow in my face |
RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
it dont say 2 3/4 only it just says REMINGTON 870 EXPRESS it doesnt say REMINGTON 870 EXPRESS MAGNUM no its not a old gun at all i bought it about 6 months ago im 14 i took me like 4 years to save up for it so know im extremely dissapointed as you could imagine !!!!! i bought it used but on the price tag it said N.I.B standing for new in box! so i think some guy won it at a banquet or somthin and didnt hunt so he sold it to them !!

RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
i would post your question in the gun forum. then one of the remington fanatics could give you the definitive answer.
good luck, buddy. or email remington directly with your serial #. they will be happy to help. -moose |
RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
My 3" express was an early 90's model and the reciever said 870 Express Magnum, if you are gonna waterfowl hunt a lot I would pick up a 3 1/2" gun such as a Benelli Nova, or another resonably priced gun in which YOU LIKE, that is the most important thing!

RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
If your serial number ends with an "M", it is a magnum receiver. Some Expresses say "Remington Express Magnum" and others are just "Remington Express" although both can be magnum receivers. The older ones usually just say "Express". I have four 870s (from 20 yrs. old to 5) and none have a shell length stamped on the receiver, just the barrel.
I have always known this to be the way to identify receivers but to remove any doubt, contact Remington's customer support @ www.remington.com. They should be glad to assist. |
RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
If you got it at a Gander Mnt why not just bring it back there and let their gunsmith take a look at it and give you a definate answer. I don't think anyone on here would be too comfortable giving you an answer without seeing the gun themselves.
Don't go buying a new gun. There seems to be nothing wrong with the one you've got , you just need to know what you can shoot out of it. If you find it only shoots 2 3/4 , so what. You are a new hunter, it may acctualy help you. Having the lighter load will force you to wait a little longer for a good shot and not push bad shots relying on the extra power of the larger shells. |
RE: gun question!!!!!!! desperatly need advice!!!
