Default Best all around shot

What is the best all around shot for geese and duck? #4 or #6? I'm getting ready to order 6 boxes of heavy shot and need your advice. What would be my range with each?
12 gauge
3inch mag

i personally would use 2's or bigger for geese, 4 for late seaon ducks, and i use 6's for ducks over dekes of jumpin (close range)

but..........if you REALLY only could buy ONE kind, i'd get 4's and keep my shots at the geese good and close

my .02

ps, as far as range goes, 30-35yds is perfect, 40 is pushing it, after that i think the risk of wounding is too great. work em close!

I agree with Moose1915 #2 hevi shot is the best for geese # 4 will work to 35-40 yd .
Just don't over choke Hevi shot mod for longer ranges and a IC for close to med shots.

I would say at least 4s or bigger, but i dont shoot hevi shot that much. I know its heavier than lead and all that, but id still go with a 2 if it were me, that may be over gunned though. But, I know itd knock the piss out of them.

the 4's work ok on geese to 30 yards but dont smack them like the bigger stuff, I would say the 4's or 2's. Or Kent Impact #3's work good on ducks and pretty good on geese.

What do you meen when you say don't over choke? I have a full choke in my gun now. The geese are flying 30+ and i thought a full would help in that case.

Hevi shot patterens so tightly that a full will result in to tight of a patteren. So tight that you may miss or put most of your patteren on a goose ,Prechewing it.
Steel shot and Hevi shot can damage full chokes that are not designed for steel or Hevi shot .

I have used a IC with #4 and #2 and it patterns well with that choke. I would go to range and pattern to see how it patterns in your gun.
