I always say to go to a proshop that will allow you to blow some calls and try a bunch and decide from there, for a beginner the HS Black Ice is a great sounding duck call for about 15$ and goose i would recommend the Big River Long Honker Flute. I would stick with a flute for starters then try some short reed calls once you get the hang of it and then you can totally learn a new way to call with the short reed. Luck to ya!

I started out a long honker and know I blow are SR's. If i could go back I would have never blown a flute. Find a SR that fits your budget and stick with it. And then maybe down the road upgrade to a higher dollar call.

Send me a PM if you might be interested in some Sr's I have some lying around and could probably stand to give one to ya. nothing special but somethinng to learn on.

All flutes are gonna be easy to learn and will sound pretty good, Short reeds are more versatile but harder to learn.
