How Many , What Kind Ect.
 

Hey All ,

Yet, another question from me . If i am brothering yall with to many question please tell me and i will slow down !
But heres the Question.

1.) I am gonna be hunting a small river this season , and their anit big flocks of ducks on it . I mean their are alot of ducks but their broke up into what seems like to me Family Pairs or Something like that. I mean when you see them you see around 1 -2 in a flock all the way to Flocks of 10 to 15 sometimes you will see a flock of 20 or more birds not that many though few and far between . And when ever i see them resting on the water i see them is groups between 1 to 10 ducks maybe catch a flock resting up to 15 or more birds. So what I'm tryin to say is they anit in really big flocks when they get to this river. So on my decoy question ?
How many Deks should i put out ? Would like 30 to 40 deks scare them or should i just stick to about 2 Dozen or less with a few Geese deks off to the side ? Dad told me if i put out 4 to 5 dozen deks it would look unatural to them because their anit big flocks of them out on this river . I am all confused any help would be greatly apperciated !

It sounds to me like you should put out a dozen or less decoys, Ahalf dozen should be a great plenty. Put goose decoys out only if there geese frequenting the area. Get well hidden and enjoy.

Your dad's logical approach makes complete sense. I hunt a small river frequently and set out no more than 2 dozen. And these are broken up into groups of 4-5. But just go set up and see what happens. Pay attention and the birds will tell you what they like. I feel that a river with cover on both sides does not take a big spread to draw them.

I would use anywhere from 3 - 12 depending on width and size of area being hunted.

im sure ya would kill birds with both set ups ...... but if ya can get by with less decoys .... why waste time and effort settin out more than needed .... sum areas i hunt ill use 1-6 decoys .... other places ill set out 100 or more ....used 1500 in TX ..... but with the small groups of birdas ya seein there .... sounds like 1-2 doz would be plenty .......... good luck

Ihunt a small river with a similar situation as yours. I use between 6-1dz ducks. I have seen that more is not better in this situation. Especially if they are not bunched up. Anyway good luck and wack and stack um.
