Duck Call 101
I just purchased a winglock double reed walnut call. Do I need to put some 'voice' (grunt) into this call when I blow? I have read a lot of you like this call and that is what prompted me to buy, but I need a little help in operating it.
I have a Duck Commander 'smoke' and it is ducky without the grunt while blowing. Any help would be appreciated. I am also looking for a dozen used dekes (mallards) if anybody has them. luke |

RE: Duck Call 101
Thanks much appreciated. I will keep practicing. It is kind of hard to practice the right way without someone to tell you if you are sounding correctly or sucking at it.

RE: Duck Call 101
Use a recorder and record yourself. When you play it back, if you sound like a duck then you've got it!
If you have a lake or something nearby that has domestic ducks, go out there and listen to them and try to emulate how they sound. Nothing sounds more like a duck than a duck. |
RE: Duck Call 101
Hey you know you sound good when you spend a whole summer practicing and no one will hang around you anymore because theyre so sick of duck calling!! No just joking
the best advice i can give is to talk to someone who knows what theyre doing and if you can have em listen and coach you, as a young hunter i have learned the value of a veterans advice time and time again. congrats on the new call bozeman, and good luck! |
RE: Duck Call 101
It probably sounds nuts but I use a tape in my truck's tape player and practice while at stop lights etc. It does get a lot of strange looks but also has some advantages. I keep blowing until I can duplicate the sounds from the tape. The neighbors were getting a tired of hearing me practice.....
