i have a 12 ga. Browning BPS that's about 20 years old. it still works like new, and shoots great. it is my primary shotgun that i use, and i don't plan on getting a new one anytime soon.

Ditto with BBBurn. But I have the tubes with mine.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I got a Browning BPS 3 1/2 12g. 3 inch is all you really need though. Tricky to take apart but not difficult. I heard those Charles Daleys are crap, so watch out.
|
RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
yeah, i forgot to mention that the BPS is somewhat difficult to take apart and put back together the first few times, but once you've done it 3-4 times, its not a problem.

Thanks guys for the INFO, as for the Charles Daly, what have you heard? They do offer a lifetime repair warranty. Maybe they know something we don't? What about the Benelli series. Been looking very hard at the Browning BPS. Did not like the Rem 870 supmag, Bad action, shot hard and kicked like a mule. Again Thanks for the INFO.Any web site that compares shotguns?

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
As for the charles daly my brother-in-law bought one last fall.About half way through the season maybe 6 boxes of 3" steel, the handle to open the receiver broke off.
They seem to be very cheeply made... He hasent sent it off to have it fixed yet but Im curious to see how much trouble he has dealing with them... |
RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
Browning BPS all the way. The only way to go
|
RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I love my 870 super mag 3.5...
|
RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I also have the Browning BPS 10 gauge and use it for all waterfowl and absolutley love it.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
Never seen anybody shooting a charles daily. Guess not very popular around here but some of the guns much more expensive than the Browning are very popular and nice to shoot. Forget the 835 unless it is the only one in your budget. Myself, I like the SX2 but a lot of money considering the stuff I take it through. I buy my guns to use and abuse, not an investment but rather a tool. If you can shoot straight anything will work as long as it is designed for shooting steele.

Bud Light,You hit it right on the mark. I have a 20yr wingmaster mag, not made for steel, I have used that gun for everything under the sun and still kill birds with it, but again the barrel is showing a lot of ware from the steel. I have traveled from Maine to Tenn with it and back to Maryland again, she is showing her age. Steel is all we can use here in MD, I need a serious watefowl gun.Looking hard at the Brown BPS. Thanks for all the advice.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
The BPS is sweet, I can stroke it as fast as an auto without the extra cleaning. I only clean it after hunting in the rain and snow.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I want to add that there are aftermarket choke tubes that will satisfy any hunter. You will even win meat at turkey shoots at the local bars against $1500 guns. If you are left handed it is even a bigger bonus because the empties land right at your feet(or IN the boat). I like to collect my empties because I shoot a lot and they are litter. Shining brass on the side of the blind has screwed me more than once.

If you think the Remington 870 Super Mag kicks like a mule, then you need to hit the weight room and start working out because I'm a relatively small guy, 5'7" 150lbs, and this gun doesn't give me any problems. I've let my younger cousins shoot it with no problems. I love my 870. Super Mag all the way!!

Thanks Jerry from DE, Please, I mean no offence to your 870, I have one , so does my whole family, been with me thru thick and thin, I just had a chance to shot a supermag in 3.5, I shot the mossberg835, browning auto,BPS pump and the supermag. The comparison was the 870 kick harder than the ones with backbored barrels thats all. We do alot of duckhunting between the 3 farms we hunt almost 5 days a week during the season. And as you know the seasons are not long at all. I'll take your advice and hit the weight room. Buy the way I'm former DC police 5'7" 160 still working with the police as a civilian heliport operator been hunting with my big brother since I was 10yr. Thanks again for your coments. :)

To Bud Light and the fans of the BPS, you have shown me the "light", Thanks for the advice, you were all great.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
my 20 year old gun's action works so smoothly that me and a friend were hunting for the first time, and i fired about four shots. he said,"man, you've got the advantage over me with that semi-auto. its a pump! i can actually shoot my browning bps faster than any semi out there.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
ok its been awhile since i`ve posted sorry about that. but for my money you can`t go wrong with the nova its tough and it wont let you down no matter what the weather conditions.an added bonus is its one of the easiest gun to tear down and clean. hope this helps.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I'm an old ithica user and I been usin a browning bps the last 3 yrs, I really like it. Tryin to scratch up enough money to buy me a ithica model 37 waterfowler. (still love them ithica's)
IOWA!!, Gods choice of Heaven on Earth!! |
RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
The Benlies are pricy, but IMO they are one of the best guns out there.
I have not had a problem with mine no matter what the weather conditions. Of course I usually use my Browning Gold 10 ga for duck now since steel really bites!! |
RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I have a BPS 10 gauge as well and it has been very good. I would however look at the Benelli Nova pump. I was very impressed with my duck hunting partners' Nova. He found it new with three chokes on sale for $419.99. the BPS runs $450 new. You can't go wrong with either.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
I meant no offense to you, just saying that if you think the 870 Super Mag actually kicks, then maybe there's something wrong with yours. I have the 870 Super Mag with no problems. My gun of choice is the Benelli SBE however. Fantastic gun, even in the 24" barrel model.

You won't even notice any kick on any gun waterfowl hunting. But any pump will beat you to death shooting sporting clays.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
Vertiport, I'm in the boat, unsure what to get, but I think I have it down to a choice of two, the browning gold waterfowl, and the benelli black eagle. I've read a lot of comments and from what I can see is that there are alot of Browning Gold guys out there and quite a few benelli too. They are both pricy but I have not seen very many complaints about either compared to other shotguns. Good luck in your search.

RE: To buy or not to buy, that is the ?
Hey JDAN, lots of great choices out there. I had a chance to go to Outdoor World here in Maryland. They had every gun I wanted to see. I had the chance to place side by side all the guns BPS 10 and 12. Remm 11-87 Benelli SBE, winchester SX2, sp10 and gold auto10 light.NOVA and 870. It was so nice to see feel and handle all the guns. Even had a chance to take them apart and look inside. The guys there were great. So for the money this is what I did. I repaired my old 870 3" wingmaster. Got a new barrel with 3 choke tubes ,new synthetic stock set.ejector side rails. striped it down to bare metal light coat of blue and camoed the whole gun swivels and sling. So the 3" is up and running. I got the BPS 10 ga in camo. 529.00 on the street delivered. I am already into relaoding so I bought the set up for the 10 ga while I was at the store for 50.00.Got a great mix for some 10 ga tarket loads for practic and a great hot load for the new HevyShot. Found the shot on line for 10.28 per pound.Even found empty 3.5 and 2.75 shells online.Way I figured is it will cost me to load 56 rounds of 10 ga 3.5 HevyShot, case, powder and primer for 113.96 thats 2.04
per load.Could be less because I will run out of shot before i run out of cases, powder and primers. Case and primers come 100 to a box so they will be free for the next 44 to be runned.Look guys you must think I'm crazy but with this hobby the powers to be home says my hunting is on my own dime. with one going to college one 2 years away, cars, home and everything else not much left for me anymore. So the outcome is for the cost of a new SP10 or Benelli SBE with no extras I got my old gun fixed the way I wanted,a new BPS 10 ga 26 camo, sling and softcase, reloading supplys and 56 rounds of ammo and a lot of great free info and support. Thanks guys for all your help. If your down here during the season. look me up. |
