Heavi-Shot
I am planin to do some pass shoting for ducks this fall and wondering if it is safe to shoot heavi-shot #4 In a Full Choke AL Berretta 390 28" Brl.

RE: Heavi-Shot
I would check with the manufacturer. Gun maunufacturers usually are very good at helping with technical advice.
Good Luck with the Duck! OhioDuckHunter |
RE: Heavi-Shot
I wouldn't try it.Hevi-shot is to hard and #4's to dense a load for a full choke,IMO:)

RE: Heavi-Shot
If your gun is approved for sheel shot you can shoot hevi shot

RE: Heavi-Shot
Last season using hevi-shot, my buddies and I used modified chokes and experienced good performance out to 40+ yards, I don't feel that the full choke is necessary. The number 4's even worked on geese out to about 40 yards.

I'm with Ohio- when in doubt call the maker.

RE: Heavi-Shot
I shot geese with some 3.5 #6s heavy out of a pattermaster last year and it spanked them good! I was loaded for ducks but when them geese came in I let them have it!! Heavy shot is awesome in my eyes!!

RE: Heavi-Shot
I've never used Hevi-shot but if it's denser than the lead we used to shoot at them then it's got to be good. I'm just not going to pay those ridiculous prices. What a joke. Get it while the gettin's good I guess.
How far do you plan on shooting? If you center them in the pattern ss#3's work for pass shooting ducks. |
RE: Heavi-Shot
A good friend of mine is shooting an Italian made gun and has the tightest patterns with an Improved Modified choke tube...so you may want to give them a look. A full choke will usually blow the pattern unless it is made exclusively for Hevi-Shot.
