Default Best Load for 2 3/4 " ? Duckys

This will be my first duck hunt and I have this old refinished twelve that I plan on breaking in this spring turkey. I've found what a good load for turkey is...now how about geese? What would be a good 2 3/4 goose load for my twelve with a full choke? And, what would be my maximum distance?....

i use BB and BBB and 2 shot for geese. not sure what the distance range would be since didnt need to take any long shots last yr. but i did make a realy sick shot with 4 shot federal steel. it was about a 45 yrd shot and i greased the goose. and the funny thing is that this goose was the biggest one i have ever shot. and i have shot smaller geese in closer range with BBB shot and not knocked em down. this yr i used alot of BB and had no probs with knockin em down.

You might want to make sure that "old refinished twelve" will handle steel shot before you go out in the field. With steel, you usually would use a modified choke as the steel is stronger than lead and needs a little more room to expand. As for the size, you can`t beat BBs for geese or 2s for ducks. Just remember, no skybusting with steel and keep your shots inside forty yards to be safe on your first waterfowl hunt. A warning though, waterfowling is a very contagious desease. Good luck.

I agree with rbduck. I would not use steel shot at all with that full choke. Especially the large shot sizes needed for geese. Bismuth would be your best option. It's expensive but very safe with full chokes and non steel proofed barrels. It also out performs steel.
