How Much Lead

I went duck hunting this season and only took 1 duck. (First season) Got him on my first shot ever, too.:) I have been hunting ducks several more times though and haven't gotten another. They fly in and I shoot at them with my 20 gauge with 2 3/4 inch 4 shot and always miss them. Is 4 shot too big for wood duck? I just can't hit them. How big of lead should I take on them. They fly 20 yards away pretty fast. Thanks

With #4 shot at twenty yards,I'd lead about1/2 to 1 full neck length

WOO!!! I took a 3 foot lead on a scaup at 15 yards and dropped him. I was also told to take 4 foot leads when shooting woodies. So 1/2-1 duck neck length lead is all?

I have no woodies in my area, therefore I'm going by how much I'd lead a mallard at twenty yards with a mod. choke and using the swingthrough with both eyes open.

Following thourgh with your shot is as important as the lead you take.

As Txbow said it is follow through that is really omportant. If your shots are really at 15 yds with the new speed loads nowadays you should shoot as soon as you pass the bill and should about take the head off. Works for me.
