Default 20 GA for ducks?

I was thinking about trying to jump shoot some ducks in some fields close to my house but only have a 20 ga. Is this possible or am I under gunned?

Sorry Boss. The .20 Gauge accounts for more cripples than all other gauges combined. Dont do it.

Once again, the problem here is people not being familiar with the capabilities of their firearms. My father has never hunted any winged game with anything other than his 20g wingmaster- and the old bastard just never misses. Part of this is that he doesn' t take stupid shots, calls very well, and has taken the time to really hone his shooting skills (probably nearing 300,00 rounds!).

No, a 20g isn' t the ideal waterfowl gun, but with practice and common sense, it is as deadly as any twelve gauge. The pellets are generaly traveling at the same speed (2 3/4 vs 23/4, 3 vs 3) and hitting with the same pounds of force. The difference is only in the amount of lead being thrown- so shoot better!

The so-called performance advantage of super 3' s and 3 1/2' s probably lead to the most cripples! I never saw people attempting 85 yard shots until the rise of the almighty super-duper 3 1/2 wow loads.

lol I' ve hunted for the last 6 years with nothing but my 20ga. 870, and i' ve dropped just about everything i shot at, including geese. I' ve(or my dog) have recovered every bird shot, sure there have been a few cripples but only from a bad shot, I' ve had nomore crips than my brother(using a 12ga.) just don' t try to reach on out there to touch em. Only shoot within your guns effective range i would not recommend any shot further than 40 yards and thats the limit.
p.s. i shoot 3" #6' s or #4' s for ducks and BB' s for geese. load it up and have a blast hunting good shooting!

Well, all I can say is that my 20 killed more than my buds, 10ga. did on opening day with no crips. The 20 is as deadly as any other ga. it just has less margin for error.

My little brother also uses a 20, as well as my sister. With all the new advances in factory loads, the difference is not that big anymore...

Take em with the 20. A friend on here two openers ago was wacking them with his 28. No joke, for I was sitting about 3 ft away from him when he was doing it. Hunting the opener with and old friend of mine this Thurs and will be really surprised if he doesn' t show up in the morning with an o/u 20 in his hands.
