RE: 20 GA for ducks?
My Browning A-5 .20 has killed more ducks than any other gun I have, and its a 2 3/4" gun. I' ve killed black ducks landing in the blocks, teal in the marsh, I' ve pass shot mallards (Deadest duck i' ve seen was with the .20, an old mallard drake at 40 yards) so the .20 is a good gun if you pick your shots.

I personally like a larger caliber but that' s just my preference. My brother on the other hand has hunted with a 20 gauge for years. He refuses to use anything else.
As the guys above said, it' s not so much the caliber but ones shooting ability. If you know your guns limitations and stay within them you' ll do fine.
Good luck............

I have 2 shotguns. A 20 guage browning with a full choke. Never had a problem with shooting ducks with it. I just powder all clay pigeons I shoot with it too, but i prefer using the 12g browning when i go, for geese and what not.

I've got a buddy who uses a Winchester 20 gauge pump. When he shoots he kills. I've hunted with him for ten years and I bet I've seen him miss only 10 ducks. It's so bad we give him hell like you've never seen when he does miss.

most of the ducks i have killed have been with my 20 gauge. Just dont take any chances, shoot at what you know you can kill, if you want to really reach out and get them, go with a 12, but a 20 will work just fine.

Well I didn't get a chance to hunt near home but I went out yesterday with my father-in-law and jump shot some ducks near Livingston MT. The 20 ga worked sweet. I shot Bismuth 2 3/4 #4's with skeet and I/C chokes. In the two flocks we jumped I shot and killed 3. All mallards, I got two hens and a drake. The drake was a big northern and I was most happy with this duck because I missed my first shot and picked him up on a crossing shot.

A 20 ga. shreds. I use to load 1 1/4 ounces of nickel #5's in a three inch case for my 870 and with the 20 guage shot string it was like shooting a rifle. I've never shot steel through it, but it's all relative.
Don't let anyone tell you that a 20 guage can't kill. There's plenty of ducks on that big pond in the sky that could tell you otherwise.
