Duck season 2023

Duck season started Saturday, I was fishing off the river mouth and caught four snappers. Later in the evening, i intercepted six geese and shot down one bird. That was a productive Sunday afternoon, some fresh fish filets and a fat goose.🤙👍

Canada Geese in New Zealand? Were they brought there or arre they native?

The Canada geese were brought here in the 1900s and are nationwide. The Eastern region has a population of approximately 6000 geese.

Thanks, I would have never thought you guys had Canada Geese.

No worries, the geese are here to stay, and with no predators. They rule the waterways, lakes, and coastal wetlands.👍

There are places in America where they are known as flying rats. We have populations that do not migrate but stay in place as the flocks get larger.

Yes, same here, we have an open all-year policy to control the Canada geese population. It's almost impossible to contain these birds. You could shoot a thousand geese, and they would replace those numbers the following year with ease.🤔👍

yep! Who would have thunk it when there was aa time we didn't really have many in somwe oarts of the country.

We can only do our best to keep geese numbers under control. The next generation of hunters will have to take on the challenge and i wish them good luck.👍

Just pluck those bad boys and stuff them with apples and bast them with apple cider and cook to medium rare and enjoy.
