As for me, in the spring it is better to use a large fraction of 3-4, and in the fall on young conclusions 4-5

Google "Tom Rosters Table.
Then go pattern using different manufactured waterfowl loads with different chokes and check your 30 inch circle.
Refer your pellet count to Tom's table.

I did just pattern the gun this last weekend. Ill share the video in a new post since lots of people wanted to see this.

I use standard steel 3" for ducks and geese.
Pattern 1 from each load with each choke at 40 yards.
Unless something unusual shows in the patterns,
I will tend to pick an IC choke over decoys and
the smallest shot size that will completely penetrate (i.e. go all way thru!)
as I don't want to "find" steel shot in my duck or goose meat!

at 40 at less yards:

#4s for small ducks
#2s for big ducks
#1s for small geese
BBs for big geese and cranes

Especially for geese, I put out a 40y yard marker.
When I get use to judging distances on ducks,
I'll judge geese closer than they really are!

Ray the reason you dont find steel shot is it doesnt expand like lead.
That is why you have total pass thru.


For me sitting over decoys I use Kent 2 3/4 round #3 shot, out if my Benelli super eagle.

Geese II'll use 3 inch #3.

For teal, I use Hevishot Hevi-Bismuth 3" 6's. They pattern great and hit hard. I love being able to use the smaller pellet that Hevishot allows you to do. You will fill your bag with teal using these shells

We don`t have an early Teal season. We use #3s for all waterfowling. Works for us.

For woodduck and teal I always used 2 3/4" steel #4s. Sometimes I even use #6. When the migrants come down I switch to 3" #4 in the pipe with #2s in the mag.
