Ever hunt these?

Just curious how many of you have gone after these?

Photo is a Tundra Swan that I took in NC. I spent a lot of my navy career in VA and both VA and NC issue quite a few swan permits. I always put in for both states and drew a good number of them. This is an immature bird (you can tell because it has some grey on it) and those were what I always targeted. I took them for meat (very good roasted) and didn't try for one of the big mature birds. Even one like this would go about 20 lbs. Lots of fun to hunt and a heck of a thing to serve for Christmas dinner.

Cheers Y'all.

Where I live in PA is in the migration path for Tundra Swans, previously Whistling Swans. We have fields all over our county with thousands of them during the migration. We have no season on them in PA, although the Feds have offered us one.

A new 2018 tag should be sitting in my PO box right now.

Are swans “spooky”? Which shot size did you shoot? BBB, T?

I've seen them, impressive birds .Never hunted them.

Do you have a picture of one roasted by chance?

BBBs out of an old Win Pump. No more spooky than geese. This bird was decoyed in. Putting out 50 or so swan decoys is a pretty big job.

I once caught two guys hunting Tundra Swans in a cut corn field, I was running towards them shouting to stop shooting, they kept shooting and the swans continued to land in the field. More landed while I was writing the hunters citations. They killed 6 swans. They thought they were Snow geese and said they were wondering why no one else was hunting them. They found out why when I handed them the citations. No mistake kills on protected species. I suspect Swans get more wary when they are legal to hunt. Some are killed every year in PA by people who don't know what they are doing, even at the Game Commissions waterfowl management area Middle Creek .

All swans are protected in my province.

How do they taste?

Taste great but mostly bone. More meat on a Canada goose.
