Default Duck question?????

Will ducks come in to the sound of a call but with no decoys present?

They may come to check out the call if it is by someone who knows how to call. However, when they come, they will be looking for the ducks that made the call, that would be the decoys. So, the odds of them attempting to land or coming into gun range are very minimal. You would be better off with decoys and no call than the other way around.

Ducks may take a look, but as stated in Oldtimr's post, if they don't see what's making the noise, they likely won't do much more than buzz the tower.

However, Oldtimr is correct again.. the opposite is true...ducks are more apt to come into decoys with no calls present. As a matter of fact, I've had plenty of instances where greenheads have worked my decoys, come in fast and hard with their landing gear down and I never blew one quack to get em there.

Your chances are much better with decoys present, even if it's just a dozen. If I had to make a choice, I'd rather hunt with decoys and no call, rather than a call and no decoys.

Ditto everyone above. Most don't know how to call perfectly. Takes a lot of practice and skill. They usually do MUCH more harm then good. Better to decoy and no call for sure.

Ducks will definitely be looking for ducks. Duck's flying don't get enough credit for how great their hearing is. If they fly over and hear calling but not ducks, they easily will buzz out of there knowing something isn't right.

They'll come to check it out, but I doubt you'll get them close enough for a shot.
