Decoy questions.

Will geese respond to mallard decoys and will geese respond to mallard calls?

Sometimes, however, I would not count on it. Calls of both geese and ducks are the language of the species, different duck calls mean different things to ducks and it holds true for geese as well. Geese don't talk duck and vice versa and while they may both frequent the same place they prefer their on species. There are also different calls for different species in both ducks and geese and a serious waterfowler will have a variety of duck and goose calls.

NO, Geese don't like ducks and ducks love to be with geese, let that sink in. If you are combo hunting ducks and geese, use goose decoys. You can add ducks but put them off tot he side and away from anywhere the geese would fly in from and land. You don't even need duck decoys with goose decoys and can still call to them and they will still respond.

Done this several times and used two groups of goose decoys and ducks off the side of one of them. Geese and ducks will both land in the hole between the two goose flocks and ducks will then swim to the duck decoys, but not land with them when geese are around.

Ducks are erratic when flying and geese do not like flying over them, don't like Mojo's. I've see flying ducks cut off geese and make them stop working the area and want to leave.

I am below Hagerstown. I don;t have places to take you, as I wasn't born around here and the places I have the birds aren't working. The river is always open and I can give you some pointers on getting started.

I will say, lots of news guys got into it and they geese have got very educated around here. They have learned to sit on protected fields and grass when its a warm winter like this.
