sp 10

Well you know the old saying "Be careful what you wish for"? Well anyway I have been shooting a 10ga BPS for 20 years but always thought I would like to have a remington SP10. I finally bought a used one this summer. This morning I was trying to shoot a crippled goose off a pond where a buddy and I were hunting and at 25-30 yards this thing was shooting a good 12 inches high. My question is there anything that can correct this or should I just ship it on down the road? It has some kind of extended ported choke tube in it but has no markings on it. The choke has 5 little "fingers" inside similar to a Wad Wizzard choke but pretty sure thats not what it is. I have factory chokes and will try them to see if it helps but was wandering if you guys think it could help or not?

I would check the shells first. That being said, is that even being a shotgun, it will have its likes and dislikes of ammo. Put it on a solid rest, sandbags, heavy jacket/blanket etc.. and shoot at 40yds a paper target. Take a 4" circle and make that your aiming point. Shoot several loads, new sheet of paper each time. Look to see how it is performing. If the loads are consistently holding high, try another choke tube and see what happens. Are you keeping your head to the stock when you shoot? Some people lift their head to see what is happening. Have someone watch you or video yourself and see. I have had many young students for trapshooting lift their head and miss the bird or shoot the leading edge of the bird. I get them to keep their head down, broken bird.

Done some investigating and found the magazine tube was a full turn loose which in turn let the barrel move slightly in the receiver when fired. Tightened it up, reassembled and test fired this past weekend. Pattern was 50 percent above 50 percent below at 30 yards with all 3 choke tubes.
