Food plots to flood
What is the best food plot to plant that you can flood. I've been thinking of sorghum. Anyone who knows can you give me advice.

Rice, corn, and beans work good too.
|
We flood corn and jap millet. We wait till about a week before season to start pumpin water. If not, they have it all ate up by the time the migrators get here. Sometimes we mix the millet with sorghum

Are you a farmer
who grew rice in Louisiana?
Folks sure doing a lot of work to avoid hunting. |
My farm is not along a major water way but we have some woodies and mallares that nest on our wetlands. We are in pa so anything that grows in our climate should probably work. We need to keep the wetlands in water most o the time so millet would probably work the best because you can flood it every so often. Right????????

Wild rice and giant smartweed.
|
When u said about giant smartweed, I started looking on the internet for companies that sell it. So far, I have not found anything, and what I have found is that it is very expensive and some companies only sell roots, which are 350 dollars for 1000 roots. I anyone can give us any information on anywhere that we could look and maybe purchase.
Thank you. |
Check this place. 3 squar bullrush is very good, teal and woodies love the stuff. Lots of choices hear as well as being able to call them for advise. Thay have been around for a long time. You don't have to buy a thousand roots. You can start with a hundred and allow it to seed its self. http://www.kestersnursery.com/

Watercress seems popular with the Ducks, Deer, Pigs and Muskrats where I'm at. I planted a plot that was a little difficult to get started, years ago, now it is gihugeant snd still spreading.

I just bought a 50 pound bag of Japanese millet that we will be able to plant for multiple years. We bought it from Hancock seed company for about 29 dollars. (it was on sale.)
