Best shotgun for wife to waterfowl hunt with?
What are your opinions on a good shotgun (model/gauge) for women?
Wife won a new mossberg maverick O/U 12 gauge last week at DU banquet, but I think it's gonna be a little bit big for her. |
Any 20 Gauge auto loader you can afford.
Here's one; http://www.stoegerindustries.com/waterfowl-shotguns Then just fit it to her "length of pull" (LOP).................... |
^^^What he said is great advice!

A good semi-auto action shotgun (gas operated and not spring operated) will have far less recoil than any O/U.
Keep that in mind. And start with light trap loads and progress to duck loads. For someone who has never fired a shotgun it is far better to start slow using light loads and the softest recoil you can find. You'll be farther ahead As Semi-sane posted a 20 is a good gauge to start new shooters with. Find a buddy and borrow a gun or two to see if she likes it. Then maybe purchase. JW |
My wife has a few shotguns, all fitted to her, all 20 gauge. Even though she has a very nice semi-automatic she always reaches for her 870 "Youth" shotgun when she goes to the duck blind. It is light and has a short barrel. She has never noticed any recoil yet while shooting at a duck. She does well with that little pump.
In the dove field she normally likes her semi-auto with it's longer barrel and soft recoil with light loads. |
Thanks for the input guys. She has a remington 1100 that she loves, but it is defintely not a duck gun.
Gonna look at possibly a benelli 20 gauge for her duck hunting. |
Yah Stoeger M2000 is basically a benelli without the name or the same manufacturing plant. Good call...had one for years and never a miss fire or hangup.

Benelli SBE II.

So your wife has an O|U, and a Rem. 1100. She has what she needs to get started.
Get her some light loads to start with, and go from their. No need (ok, that is sarcasm) to go buy another gun. My wife shoots my O|U just fine. Depending on your wife's needs, maybe get the O|U to a smith and have it fit to her. |
The one that makes her stat at home. LOL
