Duck gun?

I am looking for a duck gun that is 1200 or below. I've never duck hunted in my life but I want to start so I was wondering if anyone would know one that is a good one and is either a pump or Atomatic that really puts em down. I also want it to last me for a good while. Thanks in advance!

The gun is only one small part, if YOU don't have proper lead and hit the bird it doesn't matter what gun you have. For your question,
I have used an 870 3.5" shotgun for years, also a Mossberg 835 pump action. This year I am using a Browning A500. The new Browning A5 is about $1,500 but he two pump actions I mentioned are $600.00 or below.

Plenty of choices for the money your willing to spend, go to a gun shop and see what you like and fits you well.
Any shotgun will put ducks down if you hit them.
Take care of any gun and it will last.

Really, any shotgun will do. Decide whether you want a semi auto or a pump, 12 gauge or 20 gauge, then go from there. I suggest a 12, so you can kill geese more effectively as well (I know a 20 can kill geese fine, but I prefer 12). Handle a bunch of them, see which shoulders best and is the most comfortable. Also, take into consideration whether you want to shoot 3" shells or get a gun that can handle 3.5". Plenty of guns in your price range.

Or, you could always go with one of these:

I have a 870 but its not the special one that shoots 3.5 inch loads. So I just want to buy a whole new gun that's is for nothing but duck and geese. My friend has a 835 with what he calls a duck barrel. But I am kind of leaning towards a automatic more.

Hey, assuming it's a 12 gauge that 870 with 3" loads will knock them down no problem.

I do like the semi-autos for wing-shooting a bit better than pumps, but no reason you can't take the 870 out in the field.

I have "breakguns"; SXS's & O/U's

But for waterfowl I like autoloaders - I use a Beretta Extrema in camo

This one is good for the money;

Like has been said before make sure the gun fits you well and spend the money on quality for sure. You will be glad you got an auto if thats what you end up getting. I feel like im much more accurate since switching over years ago. Weight is a key thing to consider when buying a new gun too. It may not feel too bad in the store but lugging it around and shooting alot can tire your arm out. One of the worst culprits of this in my experience is the Mossberg 935. A great gun but awfully heavy for my taste. I shoot a benelli SBE 2 just so you know where im coming from.

That is kind of what I want is a mossberg 935. I haven't looked at benellis but I will. Thank you!

A Benelli plus some Hevishot and the ducks don't stand
a chance
