First Duck!
 

This is my first year waterfowl hunting. We were set up on a corn field Christmas morning hunting geese primarily. There is a pond right behind us and the Licking River is about 100 yards to our left. We were watching a bunch of muskrats swimming around in the pond when i saw 6 ducks coming right at us. We had no duck decoys out because we really weren't expecting any to be around because the river is moving so fast right now. They swooped in and landed on the other end of the pond and started coming our way. When they got in range we let her fly. Only shot at one while on the water but the other two we in flight. Didn't expect birds to be coming down from the north so eary because they haven't had a lot of weather but these aren't native to around here. Also had two big flocks of sandhill cranes come close be weren't able to get them in. Didn't see a single goose but still had a blast! We continued to see ducks all day but without decoys weren't able to get them in.

Congrats. I know I still remember my first duck. Keep at it. You will learn something every tiime you are out there.
