Goose newb help
 

I just started goose hunting this year i have 16 shell decoys and a few private cut corn fields to hunt. Geese come in early in the am to land in the field to feed. but when my decoys are set up they circle the field but dont commit, i dont call to much because im not the greatest but i was wonder is there anything i can do diffrent to get them to land ? decoys spread,calling etc also it after 10am it seems they stop flying arround. Any tips or info is greatly appreciated

They might be spotting you, or something about your decoy spread that spooks them. Are your deeks facing into the wind? Poorly painted? Are you camouflaged well?

today when i went out there was no wind and birds were coming from all directions. the decoys are old so the paint could be a factor and i was blended into the brush arround the field pretty well. what do you reccomend for paint ??

Most sporting goods stores sell paint that is specifically designed for decoys. Use one of those, NOT your old house paint, Krylon, etc.

Are your dekes with interchangeable heads, meaning can you have them in a sentry position or in a feeding position by just flipping the head and neck around?
If so, are they all in a heads up position or do you have 90% feeding and then just a few in a heads up position?
Are the geese really vocal when they come in? If so, imitate them. If they are quiet, so should you. They may be call shy. The geese will tell you what they want to hear. The paint is for sure a thing to look at and as Mac266 said, get the paint JUST FOR DECOYS!!! You can order it from different places or even go to Cabelas or Bass Pro and buy it there. Makes a HUGE difference!!!
