duck shells
I shoot a 12 gauge benelli vinci and i was wondering what shell is better or which one yall think is better http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/produ...1#BVRRWidgetID or http://www.cabelas.com/product/Feder...s#BVRRWidgetID

I use the Black cloud in my benelli and it puts the smackdown on ducks&geese....just make sure you use the correct choke..
|
I shoot a benelli M-2 or a remington spartan (baikal). I eithers shoot Remington Nitro steel or Black cloud out of the Baikal. It sometimes does not like to cycle on lesser shot when Im using 3 1/2" loads. However since the benelli is a pump I use estate steel rounds which are a good round for the price... usually only 15 bucks for a box. As far as patterns go I love the Black Cloud on either gun. This year I am going to shoot a couple of boxes of Blind Side since I have heard and seen a lot of pretty good reviews.
Just a thought tho, It really all boils down to which round suits you and your style of hunting as well as how it fits your wallet. As much as I try to get out and hunt I could spend well over 300 dollars on rounds alone in a season. |
I was also wondering what shot size and choke you use for mallards and wood ducks
|
I pretty much always use a modified steel choke on both my guns. As far as shot goes... for the wood duck, being a smaller bird I would go with 3" number 4 shot same as I would with teal. On Mallards I like to push up to a 3 1/2" #2 shot but will sometimes shoot 3" #2's. Again it's personal preferance. I know guys who shoot BB and others who shoot 4 shot at big duck.

I shoot Kent 3"-2's early and the 3rd shot is a 3"-BB. I rarely shoot wood ducks for we just don't get them that much where we hunt. Later in season when the northern mallards are starting to get here, I switch over to Hevi-Metal 3" 2's. Costly yes, cripples no. |
I've settled on 2 3/4" shells loaded with 1 oz of #3 steel at around 1500fps. This will cleanly take ducks out to 40-45 yards, which is as far as most should be shooting anyway.
In the smaller gauges (16 & 20), I prefer bismuth or TM shot. If you like shooting the 3 or 3.5" shells, more power to you.....but it's really not necessary. |
I would take a serious look at the new HeviShot SPeedBall
shells....these shells rock in either 3" or 3.5" |
