Default best waterfowl 12 gauge for the price?

My name is riley, i have been shooting an old winchester 2 3/4 inch chamber gun for a long time, but it finally broke on me, and am looking for a new gun, was wondering what people suggested was a good gun for waterfowl, i would like to have at least a 3 inch chamber, but a 3.5 would nice for goose hunting.

Hard to beat a Remington for the price. 870 or 11-87. They've both been around for a long time and all bugs worked out. A step up in price to me would be the Beretta semi-auto and to go further would put you into the Benelli, which a lot of Benelli owners like but personally believe them to be overpriced. All things considered, they all do the same thing, put various amounts of shot out there with the same shells. I don't believe the sxs or o/u to be the best waterfowl firearm. Both must be placed into an awkward position in a duck blind, which some mind and some don't. They seem to be a little more "picky" as to shell condition as to their tight lockup. And one less shot for cripple follow ups. But I used a citori for years and liked it. Eventually, went back to what I started with, Rem Semi Auto. Price is right for the value.

There are alot of 3.5" pumps on the market, their price starts around $300.

If you want a semi, those start well above $600 if you want to shoot 3.5"

I shoot an 870 and love it. Some say a super mag (3.5") is worth it... I've never felt the need to shoot 3.5".

But I am looking into getting a semi-auto. Not for any fault of the good 'ole 870 though. I just want the added time with the bead on the birds.

Riley,

About 3 years ago I switched to a Beretta Extrema2, I wouldn't trade that gun for anything, it is fast and the smoothest shotgun I've ever shot. Well worth the money.

I own three Remington 870s and like them all. I'm pizzed that the trigger guard is now made of plastic (my first two are metal, the new one is plastic).

HOWEVER, what's wrong with getting your Winchester fixed???

I think for the price the Benelli Supernova pump is a well made reliable pump.
