Need some Opinions! Best mallard decoys?
 

I'm looking to get some opinions on best looking and performing mallard decoys. How well does the paint hold up? How realistic looking is the decoy?

Just yesterday I was at the Dakota Decoy headquarters and I checked out some of their new flocked head mallards. They are absolutely stunning! Its amazing how real they look and their durability is great also IMO. Check them out.

You don't mention what your budget is. IMHO without a doubt good cork decoys are the best cecoys on the market. One's like those sold by LL Bean. I hunted mostly public land and can tell you a dozen of those are better than 2 dozen of anything else. This opinion is based on 42 years of waterfowling. Details aren't needed in decoys simple is better. Cork rides better and looks more realistic. They do not look like fishing bobbers in the water when the wind picks up.
The down side is they are expensive and heavier than most other decoys.
My second choice is the herter style molded foam body decoys.

I use the OLD Herter decoys. They are solid foam and are the Herter goose decoys with oversize mallard heads, so show up very well. I use these 11 (dog ate one) with 21 goose floaters of mixed manuf. Use to be 28, but deterioration and feet took their toll, and that is all I need. Geese are ALWAYS set into the wind with a 20 to 30 yd. gap with 11 mallard behind. It always works. The old saying, Birds of a feather, flock together is true. However, whoever originated that never saw teal set down between goose decoys, completely ignoring the old saying. Guess they're so small, the geese are ashamed to pick on them. Not to sure if the more expensive decoys are worth it, but a good mallard repaint kit sure is. Too bad they don't make one any more.

Drake Double Duty - these are GREAT decoys! The drakes are a little brown but when you run them without the keel they move like CRAZY on the water!!

Thanks for the replies fellas. I have been using ghg decoys for the past two years and havent been too impressed.
