Default I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

Okay, so I went on a hike last week, and I ended up killing a duck. We were passing by a lake, and we sat down for lunch, and a duck...came out of nowhere it seems, and flew in my face, so I grabbed the thing and snapped it's neck (kind of a reflex action). A friend of mine who's a biology/zoology major told me it was a white mallard, which is weird because those typically aren't supposed to appear in the wild, but it looks like that's what we have.

I am not a hunter. I know nothing of waterfowl. I'm a 20 year-old egghead college student who happens to like duck meat and would like a sense of direction on the whole cooking angle, if that's even possible. Oh, and be sure to poke fun of me all you like. I'm down for it.

Right now, the thing is sitting in my freezer, beheaded. It still has all it's feathers and the feet attached.

The idea is to cook it and eat it.

Again, the species is white mallard.

Thanks for all your help, guys.

welli have never even seen something like that before i have heard of it but if its mallard then you would do the simple thing and take the breast meat out and put what ever seasonings you like on it and i was told that it is good when you cook it in the broiler of a oven if you have one or a grill for about 5 to 7 minutes

Lets see if it was a Mallard as there is realy no such bird as a white Mallard
1 Out of season
2 No liscense
3 No state stamp
4 No Fed stamp

1 About $250
2&3 About $150
4 about $100
In fines

I would recomend you shut up about it
Never admit you even touched it
Make it go away !!

If it is a farm duck as I suspect
No problem
As they can be killed at any time and don't count against your limmit

Skin it out
Breast it out
If large like I suspect
Skin the rest
Gut and cut up like a chicken
Wash it off and cook as you would chicken breast

I like to wrap the breast in 1/2 cooked bacon and grill till the bacon is crispy and the breast is just slightly pink in the middle

BUT DO NOT OVER COOK IT !!!!!!!!!!!!
A touch on rare side is a lot better than over cooked
Asa over cooked duck is like eating shoe leather

I seriously doubt it was a white wild Mallard. It was probably a domestic white duck protecting her eggs or ducklings. Now don't you feel bad?

It sounds like a dairy queen speacial! When a domestic malard and a farm duck cross breed you get a half ass Mutt of a duck! irregaurdless its still illiegal and like the other guy said, you probably got to close to its nest and it wasnt liking it! In close i think your pretty much a dumb ass and should stay in school!
